Every summer (around June or July) Classic City Brew-Fest directors Owen Ogletree, Kerri Allen, and Lari Cowgill rent a  van and take a lucky group of a dozen or so beer fans on a remarkable three day tour of the "Big Beer Easy" -- New Orleans! New Orleans has no alcohol limit laws on beer, therefore lots of full-bodied, rich ales are available for sampling. And boy do we sample -- great food, flavorful beers, personable bars, and the unique atmosphere of this city that pulsates with life and celebration!  Be sure to email Owen or call (706) 254-BREW to get information on our next trip.
Below are some highlight pictures from our 2001 tour...

On our way down to New Orleans from Athens, Georgia we enjoy having dinner and sampling the beers at the Montgomery, Alabama Brewpub.

Wow!  Our 7th beer trip to New Orleans!  This year's crew (LtoR):  Joanne Maki, Mark King, Lynn Gieger, Pasha Souvorin, Jeff Rapp, Jan Rivers, Gordy Rivers, Thel Melton, Martha DeHart, Gail Graves, Dean Graves, Lari Cowgill, and Kerri Allen.  Owen Ogletree is taking the picture.

One of our favorite stops in New Orleans is Cooter Brown's Beer Hall.  Cooter's has a magnificent selection of fine brews.

The bartenders at Cooter Brown's will help you select a beer that is right for your taste.  You'll want to try their oysters too.

Enjoying a cigar and Abita beer at Carrollton Station pub -- just a short walk from Cooter Brown's.

Dean (on the right) was happy to meet Rockin' Jake (on the left) of the Rockin' Jake New Orleans Band playing at Carrollton Station pub.  We hope to get Rockin' Jake to play at our Athens Classic City Brew Fest soon!

Lari and Kerri dancing to Jimmy Buffett's "Fins" at Carrollton Station.  "Beers to the left..."

This year we stopped into the New Orleans Wax Museum in the French Quarter on Conti Street.  Notice that the hair on the wax figures is just like Martha's (but Martha is much cuter).

We also enjoyed the lunch class at the New Orleans School of Cooking.  Our chef made gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding, and pralines.  The accompanying beer was Abita Amber.

The Vieux Carre Wine and Spirits package store on Chartres Street in the French Quarter always provides us with hard-to-find, high gravity beers to go.

This year we did an airboat ride!  Lari and Jeff prepare for warp speed in the bayou.

Here we are enjoying great beer and food in front of the brew tanks upstairs at Crescent City Brewhouse on Decatur Street in the French Quarter.

On the edge of the French Quarter (near the French Market) is the new D.B.A. beer bar.  They have a very intelligent beer selection.

Here we are exhausted on our last night.  The courtyard at O'Flaherty's Irish Pub gave us the chance to enjoy a final Guinness and reminisce about the incredible weekend!
